Need a vehicle that can accommodate a person or two using wheelchairs? Welcome to our Access program.

As an Access member, you will have 24/7 Access to a minivan that holds up to 2 people using wheelchairs, 3 more passengers — depending on the size of the wheelchair(s) — and a driver. The Access program applies to all of our plans, such as ShareLocal, SharePlus or a student plan.

The rates for our minivans are:

• $7/hour 40¢/mile
• Night Owl rates: $3/hour 40¢/mile (midnight until 8:00am)
• EFT rates: $50/day plus 10¢/mile (for ShareLocal and SharePlus members only)

The AccessMobile is located at our Berkeley: Milvia and Center location. This vehicle is part of the City of Berkeley's fleet replacement program. In addition to City CarShare's support, the AccessMobile is supported by a grant from the National Organizations on Disabilities, which was funded by the United Parcel Service. Berkeley Councilmember Donna Spring donated her reserved parking spot for the program.

Employees of the City of Berkeley get access to select City CarShare vehicles, including the AccessMobile on weekdays from 8 am- 6 pm. Then the cars are turned over to all City CarShare members in the evenings and weekends. Those participating in the Access program will also be able to reserve the AccessMobile anytime it is available, day or evening.

1 - Non Driver Member

Join as a member and assign drivers to your account. Then reserve the minivan for any amount of time you need, access it with your driver, and go. You do not have to have a driver's license to join.

The Access program member application fee is the same as the plan you are joining.

The Access driver members application fee is $10 per designated driver (limit of 5 per account)

Any person you approve to join your account can access the van and drive on your behalf once they have signed up. Any and all driving fees will be billed to your account.

How to sign up - Non Driver Member

Fill out an application for the plan you wish to join. Select the box indicating that you are joining the Access Program. You will be given a member ID number and password. Give your Member ID number to your chosen drivers (not your password.) Each driver needs to sign up using the same sign up form that you used. Have them join your account following the instructions on the form. When they sign up, they will each get their own electronic key called a fob. Only drivers authorized by you and approved by City CarShare will get fobs. The fobs cannot be shared.

2 - Driver Member

If you wish to drive anyone who uses a mobility device, let us know by checking the Access Program box on the form. We will then give you access to the program, as well as full access to all vehicles in the City CarShare network.
